My first Butterfly Weed is starting to bloom so I’ll be having some visitors soon on the blossoms. Late this morning along the roadside at Burr Industrial Pond in Jefferson county I saw two first of year (FOY) leps. Tawny-edged Skipper and European Skipper graced the binoculars and camera lens. I see European’s towards the end of the month in high numbers in the montains so it was nice to see one so close to home. They have that weak fluttery flight of a skipperling and striking dorsal vein pattern shown in the image below. The next two months are going to be great!
