Eurasian Collared-Dove in Martinsburg

Tom Masters has found a Eurasian Collared-Dove visiting his yard during the last week. If accepted, this would represent the first documented record for WV. Congratulations to Tom! This species has been expanding it’s range in the lower 48 since first making an apperance in the 1970’s. There is a small population about 20-25 miles north of Martinsburg; 1) Just north of Hagerstown, MD and 2) Just east of Greencastle,PA.

Best times to see the bird would perhaps be the morning and mid-afternoon feeding times (Would enhance your chances). Tom has graciously said that you can come over without giving him a call but if you’d like to warn him ahead of time his number is:

Ph: 304-886-9289
Email: twmcsm@comcast.net
Address: 314 S. Illinois Ave, Martinsburg, WV

Since this is in a city be mindful of where your pointing your optics at and please respect the neighboring properties.

It would be best to park in his back parking lot (marked on the map below) and observe from there because coming in from the side alley way would most likely flush the bird.

For a map of the parking location and some other photos go here: The parking area behind Tom’s house is marked with the red X: Photos and Map
