South Florida

March 16-18, 2013

I recently went on a rarity chase to south Florida. It was a successful trip with two new ABA species being seen: Thick-billed Vireo at Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park and a White-cheeked Pintail at Pelican Island NWR.

Below is a selection of photographs from the trip. It is only a small sampling of the total number of species seen but it represents some of the heron species in their "high breeding" state. We had virtually no rain and temps ranged from the upper 40's to near 80 degrees which made the trip fantastic compared to the weather we were having at home.

There were many highlights but seeing 10 Painted Buntings in 1 hour is right up there with the lifers.

Do you know all the species shown here?
